I’m starting to think there isn’t anything Facebook won’t take on. And why not? They’ve got over 900 million worldwide users who expect a lot from the free social media platform. The addition of Messenger to the Facebook toolbox is making communication faster and adding functionality. They’ve already introduced video chat and now, Facebook has reached out into voicemail with TalkBox Voice Messenger.
(Oh my, I do hope the addition of voice and video chat to Facebook doesn’t mean that all those naysayers who expect social media to break down human connections and interaction will be proven wrong. I’d hate to see that happen.)
Facebook communication just got faster
With Messenger, text and voice message pop up on the recipients’ phone like a regular text message would; it gets attention and makes Facebook communication faster. You don’t need to wait until your friend logs into Facebook to reach them with Facebook.
Facebook adds your voice
Facebook TalkBox Voice Messenger allows you to reach out to Facebook contacts with a voicemail within a Facebook message thread; the app works with Android, Blackberry and iPhones Once the app is installed, it’s as easy as sending a message within Facebook. From the Facebook message center, you simply click to compose and hit the “+” button next to the empty box. Select voice, record and send. Simple.
What I like, the voice message is limited to 60 seconds. I think that’s brilliant, this coming from a girl who’s voicemail states “ You’ve reached Shannon Neeser; please leave a concise but detailed message.” Most people can’t. It’s a skill we should all hone.
Sure there are already a lot of other ways that you can send voice messages. What this adds is another way to communicate within Facebook. Some things are better spoken than typed. For those, you can still use Facebook, even if you’re in pajamas and don’t want to be seen on video chat. Also, Talkbox Voice Messaging means you can send voice messages to a contact you may not have a phone number for.
I’m excited. Even if I’m not crazy about the addition personally, I love to see Facebook evolve. All great communication channels evolve; look where the phone is now. Do you think Alexander Graham Bell imagined you using a smartphone to send a voicemail from an online social media platform? He maybe dreamed it. Good on Facebook for making it a reality.
Are you using TalkBox Voice Messaging? Do you think it’s a gimmick, or does it add value for you?
