As I am sure you have noticed through your own social media endeavors, it continues to get harder and harder to cut through all the noise online and get your audience’s attention. Every time someone checks their newsfeeds, hundreds of people and businesses are fighting for their attention; but fear not, for it is possible to get attention and engagement with a little work and creativity.
The following are six ways to get your content noticed and engage your audience.
Make it a graphic
Visuals get more attention and more engagement than plain text posts on social media. It is next to impossible to ignore a visual when scrolling through a newsfeed, so look at your content and if you can make something into a graphic, do it. Turn quotes, contest announcements, and engaging questions into graphics and watch your engagement numbers rise.
Create a contest
Hold a contest that requires more than just a name and email to enter. Photo, caption, or essay contests are all means of having your audience create content for you. During the entry period you can share interesting submissions and then you can have people vote for the winners. That is a lot of interesting content that is pre-made for you and your audience will share your page in order to get more votes for their entries.
Simply ask
Are you ready for the easiest engagement advice ever? Simply ask your audience to share your post. A study shows that if you put “please RT” at the end of a tweet, people are four times more likely to retweet. With knowledge comes responsibility; don’t abuse this trick. Use it wisely for only your best posts or you will likely annoy your followers.
Do some research
Did that retweet statistic above interest you? People love short, shocking statistics like that because they are easy to remember and share. Take some time and do research in your field. You can publish the full study in order to get the attention of industry professionals, and share just the most interesting statistics with your followers. Maybe even make the statistic into a graphic!
Don’t be boring
Your audience will notice if all your posts are all the same; they will get bored and quit paying attention, or worse, stop following you all together. To combat this, you need to always keep your eyes open for new and interesting content and not necessarily industry related content. People appreciate when you break free from constant self-promotion and share something interesting just for the sake of sharing.
Leverage your personal connections
Take the time to talk with your business contacts and check if they would be interested in writing a guest blog for you. Most people will be flattered at the request, and at most they will ask for you to do the same for their company. When the blogs are published both companies can promote on their sites, thus helping each other reach a fresh audience.
To gain attention, the most important thing remember is that there is no magic formula that will always work. Social media is all about keeping up with the times, so if you get caught up in the same old routine, your page will not succeed. Dedication and creativity are what will your social media sites will thrive.
