Starbucks implements a clean, crisp visual brand. What will you do to make your brand’s logo stand out?
Has your small business come up with a signature logo–something that people will know represents your business when they see it? There are many famous logos in our world today including the Nike swish, McDonald’s golden arches, or Twitter’s bird. But what goes into a logo design to make it iconic?
When designing a great logo, take into account what the overall message of the business is. The logo should encompass your business’s purpose, targeted audience and overall message.
How to design a great logo
Simplicity
Sometimes less is more, so when it comes to your logo keep it simple. The more simple your logo is, the more variety of mediums it can be used. A versatile logo is a great logo because you can increase branding techniques.
Symbols, Symbols, Symbols
Having a unique symbol that is incorporated within your logo is a large element in creating a great logo. Using a symbol allows branding for your company to be easier. Instead of worrying about space of a whole logo the symbol can be used to represent the business. Whenever someone sees that signature symbol, they will think of your businesses which will in turn increase your company .
Wild words
Whether your logo uses your specific business name, or a short word that represents your business; words will increase your logo’s popularity. Words are another element, along with symbols, that will increase your companies branding skills. Let’s refer back to Nike; they use their whole company’s name, the swish symbol, and the word “swish” all within their logo. When anyone sees these three elements they automatically think of Nike. Use a simple catchy word that will leach onto people’s subconscious, that way your logo will always be with them when they hear or see your phrase.
Color
Different colors have different effects on people. Red is usually a bolder color that people notice first whereas blue is a calming color that people focus more on because it is not as harsh. Color can be changed depending on the situation, but a signature color is like a signature phrase–people will connect those colors to your business. Black and white can be used as iconic colors for logos as well, so do not be afraid to use neutral colors.
Bold
Since simplicity is necessary in a great logo using bold statements throughout your logo is important. Boldness will strengthen your logo into a great logo. Boldness allows your business to use the signature symbol, slogan, or overall logo in any situation which will show people what your business is all about. But do not forget the key element of simplicity; make sure not to overdo the bold statement.
Unique
Blending in is not going to make your logo, or your business, stand out. Making your logo unique will make your logo memorable and great. Your logo can be unique in its color scheme, slogan, or symbols. Designing your logo to look different is good, so do not be afraid if your logo does not look like your competitors.
Once you create your new and improved logo, based off of these elements, your business is ready to rock and roll! The next step in marketing your business to the world is creating a successful branding message which begins with a great logo.
