Have you ever had such a great content idea that it hurt you to think it could only be used on one medium or at one time? Well, rejoice with me because you can use that content idea in so many ways and spread it out over time in order to give it the attention it deserves.
How you ask? How can you use one content idea without being repetitive?
Milking your content idea
I love blog posts with real-life examples, so let’s examine an idea Melissa, our CEO, had and how she turned into so many great pieces of content.
The idea:
Share a list of content ideas
On the blog
In October, Allee was working with a lot of nonprofits, so Melissa adapted her idea to have a list of content ideas for nonprofits and wrote the post “15 Facebook content ideas for nonprofits.”
In the eBook(s)
Last year we wrote and published an eBook called “Best Practices in Social Media.” One section of this book focuses solely on content ideas.
Another eBook we have in the works is just an eBook of content ideas. It will contain over 300 ideas for marketers to use on all their digital channels.
On social media
Every so often the Allee team shares a content idea on social media. Here is a tweet I posted – short, sweet and even includes an example.
In a presentation
When Melissa speaks, she always gives the people what they want, which is why her “Top 10 Content Ideas” list has been making its way into her presentations.
In print
Whenever Melissa speaks she brings along a few of these “Top 10 Content Ideas” handouts and every single time she runs out. Print is still alive and well loved!
Future ideas:
- Make a video – We could make a video of Melissa speaking about her favorite content ideas or make a whiteboard video highlighting the ideas and statistics that go along with the popularity of each idea.
- Design an infographic – Who doesn’t love a nice “top 10” infographic?
- Collect user generated content: We need to ask our followers and clients about their favorite content ideas and repeat all the ideas above with their input.
Awesome, right? That one content idea has been seen by thousands of people in one form or another and still has life left in it! Next time you have a great content idea, sit down and plan all the different things you can do with it. Seeing one idea turn into a dozen pieces of content is incredibly satisfying!
