I was first introduced to Melissa and Allée Creative via Maggie Sonnek. Yes, the very same Maggie from this post! I was about a year into my first real-world, post-collegiate job at a very small advertising agency. You hear ad agency and immediately think “Mad Men,” right? Well, I can assure you my job was entirely the opposite of anything glamorous, recognizable or creative. But, it was a job in my field during a terrible economy.
The long and short of it was even though it was valuable experience, it wasn’t fulfilling. I was purely an order taker and my thoughts and creative input were most definitely unwelcome. It was a harsh reality for a newbie to the professional work world, but I more or less accepted it as the status quo.
A few more months went by and my unease and restlessness were ever increasing. So, I started to look for creative outlet opportunities outside of work. One of them happened to be volunteering for the communications committee of a local nonprofit – led by none other than Maggie! I was super excited to make the connection with her and was hugely relieved to learn I wasn’t the only one struggling to find a fulfilling outlet for my creative passions.
However, it became clear that both Maggie and I were pretty much powerless to implement any changes or make a real difference. With that said, we both more or less parted ways around the same time. But, not before she introduced me to Melissa.
I started out with Allée as a guest contributor and then immediately applied to be an intern, even though I already had a full-time job. You may find this shocking, but during my short 3-month internship I learned more and significantly improved my skills as a writer and communicator than I had in my tenure at the agency. My internship then turned into a part-time content strategist position. Talk about recognizing and rewarding talent when you see it!
What I’m trying to convey is Allée gave me not only the opportunity to pursue my creative talents but also the confidence to break free from the barriers of my work title. Did I love every assignment I was given? No, but I love a good challenge. And, I always learned something new about myself and our clients. To me, that speaks volumes. With Allée you can make a difference in your organization, you can reach your potential customers and you can be creative. So let Allée help you think outside of the box, create an impactful campaign and communicate effectively with your target audience. Yes, we can.
